Is It Really Good to be The King? Part II By Barry Sea Siegel

Are you enjoying being the King today? Yes, it gets lonely at the top and we often question whether or not the effort is really worth it.  But being in charge of your own destiny certainly provides more opportunity for “success” than could ever be achieved working for someone else. Unfortunately, it also exposes you to far too many possibilities for set-backs.

More times than I can count through the years, I’ve been asked the question “what are your keys to success?” Each time I’ve answered the question by saying; “I’m where I am today because I’ve been allowed to make more mistakes than you have, and I’ve been able to avoid repeating those mistakes.” Like most successful small business people, I’ve got a Ph.D. from the “school of hard knocks.”  I often ask myself, “how great would it have been had I been able to start my career knowing what I know today?”  Since that’s not going to happen, the least I can do is share with you a more complete explanation of my keys to success, over and above re-stating “don’t make the same mistake twice.” That’s what this series of blogs is all about. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be presenting the key strategies that I’ve discovered. But the strategies themselves are not nearly as important as the attitude you’ll need to assume in order to properly implement them. The one word that describes this attitude is “passion.” So let’s go back to our respective “Courts” and try to enjoy clinging to our “Thrones” until my next blog provides more insight to make it “Good to be The King.”
